This photo, while not the best composition, with a strange and uninteresting background, with weird focus and wonky contrast, depicts a perfect moment in my relationship with this animal.
This moment, with its enormous ears and sparkling eyes filled with fear, lies, and just a hint of regret, is the moment immediately before I discover what he has done.
Did he chew up Mommy’s new NARS?
Eat glitter? Again?
Unplug his self-cleaning litterbox and gnaw on the cord? Again?
Claw Mommy’s new throw blanket?
Unspool the toilet paper?
The possibilities are endless, but I always savor that little moment of innocence before I pick him up and say, “Let’s go find what you did.”
