This room stood out to me and really taught me a lot, because I love seeing chic rooms that are well designed, but in settings that maybe aren’t in a millionaire’s mansion. This living room looks like a basic builder’s home, but with some beautiful slightly warm gray paint, and furniture/accessories that could easily be duplicated at Target, CB2, or Homegoods.
It feels attainable.
I love disecting rooms like this. The couch isn’t pushed up against the wall and this isn’t done to create a walk space, but to bring the room inward and make it more intimate around the fireplace. The tufted ottoman acting as a coffee table looks luxurious and comfortable. Angling the chairs inward looks more intimate and less serious than straight-forward facing. Mantels don’t have to be overdressed, one simple photo and two sconces can look stunning.
Look ma, no drapes!
If you don’t NEED a ceiling fan (hey florida!) a simple shade chandelier gives character.
The home owner could easily paint the walls eggplant and toss in some turquoise pillows if they felt like being bolder in the future and the furniture and accessories would still work. I think that’s the kind of design that works for me and my home because it can grow with me.

So light and airy.

This is the color scheme I went with in the dining room. I love how familiar and traditional and cozy it feels, yet still very fresh and modern.
